Welcome to Our Home, Albergue Celentiname

Experience the quietness of Solentiname with us at Albergue Celentiname, and escape the modern world to a simpler place of great beauty.

We are a small lodge with rooms and cabins, powered by solar energy and looking out over Lake Nicaragua. The lodge is the located on the most densely forested part of Isla Elvis Chavarría (San Fernando Island), shaded by 20 meter high trees, draped in vines and home to many iguanas and flowers that are frequented by hummingbirds and butterflies. Each cabin has a private bath with unheated water, simple beds, screened windows and a deck above the lake shore.

Maria Guevara opened the lodge over 20 years ago and has been running it since. She and her partner Daniel are among the most friendly people in Solentiname. She is one of the original painters of Solentiname and it is still a very important part of her life.

Everywhere she looks there is a scene waiting to be captured forever in paint. The deep green of the tropical growth, the azure waters, the robin egg blue of the sky, the pure white of the egret, and the brilliant red of the hibiscus all make their way to her canvas. Visitors are drawn to the islands and quickly fall under their magical spell. Here one can shed completely the pressures of the world and fall into the easy pace of the island life.

Solentiname has a rich past, it is not only famous not for its wildlife, its primitvist art culture, its semi-revolutionary activities and the poet Ernesto Cardenal, but also for its unique nature and friendly people. Hospitality, peaceful way of living, the artists community, the wood carvers and the little ecological museum are major attractions. Solentiname is still off the beaten track.

Once you start to feel the special atmosphere of Solentiname you understand why there are so many artists around, living in harmony with Mother Nature. There are no cars in the entire Archipelago, only virgin rain forest, an incredible variety of birds...and peace. Peace all around.... Solentiname is truly the hidden jewel of Nicaragua.

So we welcome you to join us at Albergue Celentiname to relax, surrounding yourself in quiet or fill your days with activities including canoeing, kayaking, hiking, birdwatching, fishing, and exploring.

We are a small lodge, we are never crowded, complicated or commercial.
