Sponsor a Scholar - Change a Future

Our most important program. Effective democracy requires education, and together we can improve the future of Solentiname.  Your support can be either monthly or yearly, but we encourage you to think long term in your scholarship gifts….we make a commitment to help a student for 5 years, until they graduate. Of course they need to meet yearly requirements, but almost all of our students who start finish. It is intimidating to think that we now have 5 year old preschool students with perfect attendance -- we are going to be together for a long time!

General Donations - Recurring or One Time

Making a one time or recurring donation is easy. Simply visit our GIVE NOW! page and select the donation type you wish to make.

Recurring Donations - Subscription based donations are set up to automatically execute a donation using the information you supply every month. We have the system set up for donations of US $25, $50 or $100 per month, which you select during the donation payment process, but upon request we can arrange for any amount for a recurring donation. This is a simple way to make a donation because it is automatic. If there is ever a need to change the the amount of the recurring donation or to stop it for any reason it is easy to do so.

One Time Donations - These donations can be any amount you determine and this amount is entered at the time of payment processing. One time donations can be used to fund a specific project or just as a general act of compassion and good will. Make a One Time Donation.

Sister Schools

An intercultural exchange program. Increase awareness with direct student contact; your students learning about proud but disadvantaged peoples, and our students realizing that someone cares. Now that we have internet here in Solentiname, we can even video chat. Clean Out Your Desk is an initiative to share your used, but in good condition school supplies with our students. We have many different options, but the most popular is selling local Solentiname Art and Crafts. We can send the Art to you and your group sells it and then sends the money back to Solentiname. It goes full circle, starting with artisans making their art and Solentiname, and you finding buyers.

Church and Corporate Sponsorship

Sell art at the annual Church Bizarre, or form a group of friends or co-workers to work together to support a project.  Alianza de Solentiname is a US Registered 501(c)(3) Charitable Foundation and we are awaiting approval from as a Nicaragua Registered Non-Governmental Aid Organization (NGO). We have several donors who make recurring donations to our programs and their employers matches their donations.

Fund a Specific Project

If a particular project has caught you eye, you can directly support that project with your donation. Our Photography project was funded by a generous donor. Sometimes donors contact us asking if there is something specific that we are currently working on that they can help with. We have projects big and small and of every budget that need assistance. Churches and social organizations often combine a funding project with a specific fund raising event, with succesful results.

Volunteer Your Services or Time

We always need help, and there is always something to do here in Solentiname. Please see our Volunteer section for current details. And you can even help from home…we have several virtual opportunities, from improving our web site, to hosting parties to sell the Art of Solentiname. No matter where you are or what you do you can make an impact on the children and families within our program.

Spread the Word - Raise Awareness

The best possible thing that anyone can do for the Alianza share our message with those you know. Pass this web site along to your friends, family and coworkers - any way that you can get one more person involved will help those within our program greatly. The children and families in our program need people just like you to tell others about their situation. 

Imagine that if everyone we had an initial contact with us in the past shared what they learned or did with 5 other people. Then if those 5 people told 5 more and so on and so on. Social networking and viral marketing via word of mouth is the strongest, and most reliable way to get the word out on a good thing. It's called solidarity between friends.

Summary of key projects seeking financial support: 

Sobresaliente is the foundation project of the Alianza; and Capatacion para Universidad and Leer Solentiname are the pilars of Sobresaliente. Both are voluntary programs to expand the educational opportunities for gifted and motivated (sobresalientes) students in Solentiname.

• Leer Solentiname is directed at pre-school and primary aged children to instill in students the importance of reading and developing literacy skills.  The Vision is to develop a thirst for knowledge and curiosity and sharpen their critical thinking and analytical skills. Being able to read and write are not skills we learn on our own -- literacy is a gift one generation passes along to the next

100% of all money or services received go directly to our programs. Fundraising and administrative overhead costs are covered by BattenKill Canoe, an adventure tour operator in Vermont, and will not come out of your contribution.
