Please Keep Carolyn in the Light.

I am very sad to share with you that Carolyn passed on at 5.25 wed mar 14.2012 in Solentiname Nicaragua. She was suddenly and dramatically taken ill in the morning. I was with her the whole day along with many close friends; the nurse was here, but she died in my arms surrounded by friends. In local tradition, friends and the community stayed with us from that moment on through the night. Many folks I did not know, but they wanted to be with her. Friends brought food and the men built a beautiful casket. We had a community service at 3pm; she was buried at 5:15 Thursday and then we had a fiesta to celebrate her life. We lit a fire when she died, paused by the fire before burial, and we will keep her flame going for seven days.

Paz y an abrazo

Please help us preserve her legacy through the Carolyn Parker Memorial Fund.

Leer Solentiname & BiblioBote Introduction PDF Print E-mail
Leer (read) Solentiname is a reading program hat concenrates on promoting and sharing the joys of reading for pre-school and primary students. The Vision is to develop a thirst for knowledge and curiosity and sharpen their critical thinking and analytical skills. The Mission is that if we can get them reading at a young age, they will be better students, more successful in University, and finally more productive and proactive leaders in their communities. Leer is an after school program, and BiblioBote is our mobile lending library by boat that regularily visits the 9 sector primary schools to loan books. BiblioBote is one of our most important initiatives, especially in a place where many have few books, and no culture of literacy.Being able to read and write are not skills we learn on our own -- literacy is a gift one generation passes along to the next.
